About

I created Striving 5280 to inspire the athlete in all of us, especially as we age. The name derives from my home in Denver, well known for its elevation of 5,280 feet. But it’s also a play on words as I’ve entered my fifties and continue to strive for an even better active life over the coming decades.

I have always been an athlete and always will be. I grew up playing many sports, but soccer and running were the focus for much of my life. Unfortunately, a bad knee forced me to pivot — as injuries have with so many lifelong athletes — to lower impact activities. Over the last few years, I found I love ultra-distance cycling (especially 200-mile gravel races) and rediscovered my passion for ice hockey.

Welcome to Striving 5280, where we explore what’s possible when you refuse to let age or setbacks define your limits. Here you’ll find stories of my adventures, training and gear insights, and stories from other athletes, especially masters. I aim to prove that our best adventures can begin later in life.
